Install CLAIR

A per-user Windows install. No administrator rights needed, and no configuration to get right.

1. Download the installer

  1. Open the download link from your alpha invitation email. It points to a Windows installer (a single .exe file).
  2. Save it anywhere you like. There is nothing else to download first.

2. Get past the security warning

  1. Run the file you downloaded. Windows will show a blue "Windows protected your PC" screen.
  2. Click More info.
  3. Click Run anyway. The installer proceeds normally from here.

Why this appears

This screen shows up because the installer is not yet digitally signed, a paid certificate CLAIR adds after the alpha. It does not mean anything is wrong with the file. See Troubleshooting: unsigned installer warning for more.

3. Run the installer

  1. Follow the installer's own prompts: Next, Next, Install. There is nothing to configure.
  2. The installer runs entirely for your own user account. You do not need administrator rights, and it works fine on a university-managed laptop.

4. What happens next

The first time CLAIR starts, it needs an internet connection for a minute or two: once to sign in, and once to fetch its AI model (2 to 17 GB depending on your hardware tier) and a one-time library pack (about 1.5 GB), both downloaded once and reused after that. After that first setup, CLAIR works fully offline. The next guide, First launch, walks through both.

Later on, an update is one click: CLAIR shows an "Update & Restart" banner at the top of the app when a new build is available. No re-download, no reinstall, and the banner can always be dismissed and picked up later.
